I noticed the comment Lillian made on the large critique group. I actually think it's great. It helped me out a lot, even more so than having two people edit my book. (The first was a friend who did it for free who did good considering she doesn't do much with fiction in either reading or editing; the second was paid but didn't have any suggestions other than correcting misspellings and grammar usage, etc.) The critique group has really helped knock a lot of rough edges off my book.
