It certainly gives you a leg up when watching whodunit TV shows/movies if you've read tons of Christie--usually you can guess the murderer in the first 30 minutes! And Medieval! Interesting. I actually write Viking historicals AND I have a mystery out on submission, so sounds like we have lots in common, Julianna. I'd love to win this novel! heatherdaygilbert (at) gmail (dot) com.

Oh, and my mystery is contemporary, but it's set in West Virginia, which is quite a different kind of place.Heather Day Gilberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12353914883176152555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5550501414598070861.post-13708476148808617552013-08-30T06:16:43.236-07:002013-08-30T06:16:43.236-07:00Several comments.

Never mind.

2. Janet, I never heard of Alan Bradley. I think I understand his distinction. I've read two different definitions for cozy mysteries. One generally applies to the sleuth like Poirot or Marple. The other sounds more specialized. And having read some cozy mysteries, I can see why someone might want to distance himself from that title -- I've read some where the main character figures out the killer when they puts her in a dangerous situation and reveals himself/herself. To me, that's not the same as the character figuring things out before the reader does.

3. My answer to my question -- There are some eras I'd consider writing about -- I've got a historical romance idea (one that I'd only do with a co-writer, since HR isn't my forte) based in a Biblical setting, and one in the 300-500 A.D. range. But my favorite part of U.S. history is the post civil-war era, from approximately 1876-1912. Maybe I should write something in that era.

JeffJeffrey C. I really enjoyed Rules of Murder and am looking forward to the next books. Yes, visiting the big band scene would be cool.

Please don't enter me in the draw, since I've already read and reviewed the story. I just wanted to say hello. He calls them Golden Age instead of cozy, but there's a lot of the same feel.Janet Sketchleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09024075743751774466noreply@blogger.com
